The Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance (WiRSA) is proud to recognize Dean Leisgang, Director of Communications from CESA 8, as the 2026 WiRSA CESA Employee of the Year.

Leisgang has dedicated his educational career to helping Wisconsin school districts strengthen communication, build community trust, and tell the stories of their students and schools. His work combines strategic communication with innovative visual storytelling, helping rural communities better understand complex issues facing their local schools.

“I’m honored by this recognition, but the work has never been about one person. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside some remarkable superintendents, educators, students and community members, and whatever success we’ve had has always been a team effort," Leisgang said. "I’m incredibly grateful for all the school districts that have trusted me to become part of their team and help tell their stories."

Dean's impact is visible across Wisconsin. Leisgang has helped dozens of districts communicate important educational issues, and his communication strategies have supported successful referendums totaling more than $750 million in community investments. Those investments have helped preserve educational programs, improve learning environments, enhance student safety, and expand career pathways and opportunities for rural students.

Dean’s approach is rooted in collaboration. He works alongside students, educators, administrators, families, business leaders, and community members to understand each community and help districts tell authentic stories that build pride and strengthen relationships.

His innovative communications work has also earned national recognition through the Telly Awards and the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).

WiRSA congratulates Dean Leisgang on being named the 2026 CESA Employee of the Year and thanks him for his commitment to Wisconsin’s rural students, schools, and communities!

Dean Leisgang will be formally recognized at the WiRSA Conference on October 29th during the awards lunch at the Stevens Point Convention Center.
