Tossing water balloons with towels? Carrying eggs across the room on a spoon? Throwing paper airplanes for distance? How would you like your favorite pastime to become an Olympic event? This is your opportunity to have an impact on the future of the Olympic games.
The International Olympic Committee has determined that they will be adding three new Olympic events beginning with the 2000 Summer Olympics. You will be a part of a team to help create an event that should be added. Create a campaign poster showing the original event to be added. You will prepare a PowerPoint Presentation on the statistics, financial costs, and incomes of your sport.
You will use this PowerPoint to convince the Olympic Committee that your original sport should be added. Your PowerPoint should include the following:

Students will vote on the three original events to be added and our middle school will recommend the top three events to the IOC.

Each team will consist of 4 or 5 members. |
|

1. Create an original event with well-described rules and regulations. |
|
|
2. Determine the rules of the event. |
|
|
3. Decide what equipment is needed. |
|
|
4. Design the uniform to be worn. |
|
|
5. Research to determine: |
|
|
|
a. The cost to hold the event, the uniform and the equipment. |
|
|
b. The target audience of the event. |
|
|
c. Which countries will participate. |
|
|
d. Income generated by the event. |
|
|
e. The design and cost of the facility needed. |
|
|
f. The statistics of your event by researching present day summer events. |
|
6. Create a campaign poster to advertise your event. |
|
|
7. Develop a PowerPoint presentation on the specifics of your event. |
|
|
Class will then vote on the events to be recommended to the International Olympic Committee. |
