Use any teacher books or poetry books that you find readily available.   Any poet, or attempts at poetry are to explored and considered as possible ways to teach students about the treasure of poetry.  The more in tune the poems are with your students interest, the more successful this unit will be.  Have fun with the poetry!  The kids will have fun working on this unit with you.

Some books that I have found very useful in teaching poetry:

Animal Poems.  published by Usborne Books in 1990

Beasties. by Louise Binder Scott.  Denison & Company; Minneapolis, 1990.

Ideals.  (Seasonal poetry books that are published by the Ideal Co.  Check your library for collection.)

Kids Pick the Funniest Poems. compiled by Bruce Lansky.   Meadowbrook Press, 1991.

Pathways to Poetry.  by Phyllis J. Adams and Ellen L. Kronowitz.  Fearon Teacher Aids, 1994.
