Introduction

The year is 2015 AD. Your group has been chosen by the International Olympic Organization and the Professional and Amateur Sports Leagues to solve the problem of how sports will need to be adapted in the future. Athletes and officials are concerned about future rule changes, equipment, and the development of the sport, due to predicted changes in the environment. Your task is to disclose how a sport picked by your group may evolve in the New Millennium. The sports associations and participants are depending upon your actions for the future of athletics.

Task

Each group shall consist of a Historian, an Interpreter, a Forecaster, and a Captain. The group will select a current athletic game from the list. The Historian will research the history of the game. The Interpreter will study the current status of the game. The Forecaster will read and summarize articles on environmental predictions for the future. The Captain should keep other group members on task and coordinate their activities. The presentation to the class will include a short history, brief list of current rules, and the projected major changes to the sport in the New Millennium, as a result of environmental prediction analysis. The group will then guide the class through a modified future version of this game.

Predicted Changes for the Environment

The environment will change in the next millennium. Although we don't know how, experts have been busy analyzing data and making predictions.

Choose one of the categories below, and read at least 2 articles. Summarize each article in a paragraph using the "Future Articles Form". Then, briefly explain how this environmental change, should it occur, could affect the way your group's chosen sport can be played in the next millennium.
