Things you may need to do:
1. Mini lessons on:
A..Elements of legends/myths
B. Storyboards
C. Geometry - Symmetry
D. Map key - Kinds of boundaries
2. Materials:
A. Paper mache - 3-D maps
B. Modeling clay of some sort - weapons, arrows, display items.
C. Paint - Glue - Paper - cloth - hangers - for maps, applique,
D. Flexible twigs - twine - birchbark(?)
3. You may want to display for students:
A. Bulrush reeds
B. Porcupine quills
C. Arrows either real or replicas
D. Baskets - Black ash, birch bark
E. Pressed plants used for medicinal purposes
Students may want to interview their grandparents and do a compare/contrast chart or Venn diagram.
Example: *
Let students brainstorm their own families. What characteristics do they have? What values? Is there a certain job/hobby that family members enjoy? Now, pick a member from the animal kingdom that has this traits in common with their family.
Let this animal head the mobile. Write characteristics and hang. Make sure to include family name.
