It is the year of the Boar, 2019. You are a member of a team of newspaper reports who write for the famous Brooklyn Tribune. Your boss, Mrs. Mongin, wants to win the annual New York Y2K History Award. This award originated in 2000 to help preserve written communication. Her assignment is for your team to research and produce an award winning newspaper publication based on the the year 1947. Good Luck!
Your team has been assigned the task of researching, writing and editing a single edition of The 1947 Brooklyn Tribune. Your edition should include:
a news article about a historical event of 1947
a feature story
an editorial
an entertainment article about the Chinese New Year
a sports article
Establish the needed roles and jobs for each member of your group in order to get an edition of the Tribune published. For example: editor, news reporter, entertainment and feature writers, sports reporter, political cartoonist or a photographer.
Some members of your team may have more than one job. The editor will be in charge of the final layout, but all team members will have to work together on the final layout and printing of the paper.
Once you have decided on your roles and jobs, research the Internet to gather information that will answer the who, what, where, when and why for each article. Record this information onto your Article Fact Sheet. You will use this sheet to organize your facts and begin writing.
Write the articles and type them using Microsoft Word. Be sure to use the spell checker to find all spelling mistakes.
Edit and revise the articles with a partner from your group.
When you finish your final copy of the article, save it to your disk and turn it in to your editor.
Publish the newspaper using Microsoft Word or Publisher.
Team Editor will be responsible for clearly presenting and explaining the final published copy of the group's newpaper.

After researching and creating your own newspaper for 1947, you should have an appreciation for the uniqueness of the time and some things that made it special. This webquest has allowed you to travel back through time to a period, for most, of peace and enjoyment, yet coming to America as an immigrant was a puzzling experience, especially for a child. Through exploring this era, one hopes that your appreciation for 1947 has been increased and that you will reflect on the lives of "Shirley Temple Wong" and Jackie Robinson.
