Introduction

Greetings from Theo LeSieg! Remember me? I wrote the book Ten Apples Up On Top. Dr. Seuss, a great friend of mine has asked me for help. As you know I write great books about math and counting. Lately Dr. Seuss and I have been running into some problems trying to write a new math book for kids. We were hoping you could help us out. We will be visiting your school and would love to hear about your favorite subject, MATH! We might use your ideas to help teach other children about math. Who knows, you might even become a famous author someday! See you soon!

Sincerely,

Theo LeSieg

  2. Complete the "Ten Apples Up On Top" recording sheet for each apple.
  3. Create a 10-page slideshow with a partner or small group that presents your favorite math activities to show Dr. Seuss and Theo LeSieg.
  4. Process and Resources

    1. You must explore all ten of the math apples by clicking on each of the pictures below.
    2. Each student must print a "Ten Apples Up On Top" recording sheet for each apple and use this sheet to record interesting facts about the math sites. Printing instructions are given on each apple page.
    3. After exploring all ten apples and filling in your apple research log, you and a partner or small group should work together to make a ten-page slideshow presenting your favorite math ideas to Dr. Seuss and Theo.

``I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities.''
