Introduction Birthdays are so much FUN to celebrate! Your birthday is the most special day of the year. It is like having your own personal holiday! How many students in your school share the same birthday? Maybe you could celebrate together? Take the birthday challenge and find out! |

Task Your job will be to work in a group to gather the students' birthday dates from a grade level. You will use this information to create a slide show. Your slide show will include:

Process |
|
|
1. Each group of 3-4 will be assigned a grade level to survey birthday information for each student. Click on the picture for your survey sheet. |
|
|
2. Organize the birthday information by month on a tally sheet to share with the class. Click on the picture for your tally sheet. |

|
3. As a class, create a bar graph that includes the birthdays of all the students in the school. |
|
|
4. Complete graph quiz sheet for class discussion. Click on the picture for your quiz. |

5. Now look back at your grade level data and brainstorm at least 5 ways to interpret the information you have collected. For example you could graph the information by boy and girl birthdays or by month. Can you come up with 5 more ways to organize your information. Click on the picture for a brainstorming sheet to help you. |

6. Each group will create three different graphs based on their favorite ways to interpret the grade level information and data they collected. The group will then display their graphs in a slide show presentation, which will include a descriptive paragraph about each graph. For an example slide show click on the picture. |

7. Present your groups' slide show to the class. |
