| Helping assure all students have access to all educational opportunities is the focus of this program. Each school district has an equity team. The teams are responsible for reviewing their district's policies and programs for adherence to non-discrimination laws. CESA 8 provides networking opportunities, updates on state and federal equity issues, resources, and assistance in developing and monitoring equity programming. |

Autodesk, an industry leader in computerized aided design
(CAD) software is encouraging and supporting women working in the traditionally
male-dominated math, science, and technology industries. They provide a special
web page where women can explore non-traditional career opportunities. The site
highlights females currently employed by Autodesk, a project titled Design Your
Future (DYF), leading women ("National Champions") from around the
country who support DYF, and other inspiring items. Students (especially
females) should be encouraged to take a look. Check it out on the web at
http://www.autodesk.com/dyf/wawork/waworkindex.html CESA 8 will be one of 4 sites chosen by DPI to host a workshop titled “Investigation Discrimination and Harassment Complaints: Basic Skills.” The workshop is scheduled to take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28 at the CESA 8 office. DPI Pupil Nondiscrimination Consultant Patricia Williams, J.D. and Marta Larson, M.A., the Wisconsin Field Service Specialist for the University of Michigan School of Education’s Programs for Educational Opportunity will lead the presentation. The workshop is designed to provide an overview of nondiscrimination laws and legal requirements, and offer practical techniques for investigating discrimination and harassment complaints. Participants will also learn how to develop an investigation plan through case study analysis.
The cost of the workshop is $55 per participant, which includes lunch and materials. DPI clock hours will be available. For more information or registration materials, contact CESA 8 Equity Coordinator John Knickerbocker or Jennifer Grenke at the CESA 8 office. |
