Rural Teen Institutes

Imago Dei Village

The focus of the CESA 8 Rural Middle School and High School Teen Institutes is to offer youth at grades 6th-8th (middle school) and grades 9th-12th (high school) a chance to explore their own and others attitudes and belief about alcohol and other drugs, tobacco and violence and other related problems. Our Rural Teen Institutes facilitate a process that allows youth to share information, develop specific skills and prevention strategies to be implemented within their respective schools and become part of their district's prevention strategies. These "action plans" have historically involved not just the school community but the general communities served by that school district as well.

Of all the outreach efforts engaged in by CESA 8, our Rural Middle School and High School Teen Institutes are by far are most successful. Since 1989 well over 12,300 students have participated in this program. CESA 8 is the first to offer a rural specific and sensitive teen institute at grades 6th, 7th, and 8th while utilizing local education and licensed ATOD professionals as mentors. What is made this program so relevant is the ability of the contracted professionals to provide Northeastern and Central Wisconsin specific information to our youth participants.
