chool districts across
the state are finding it increasingly difficult to hire and retain
sufficient numbers of qualified substitute teachers. In an attempt
to deal with this issue, Wisconsin enacted a rule allowing school
districts to hire non-certified teachers as substitutes. To be
issued a (3-year short term) permit, however, these individuals must hold a bachelor's
degree (from an accredited college), receive appropriate
training, and be sponsored by a school district.
The presenters, Sherry and Sandy, are substitute teachers themselves. This one-day comprehensive training presents a positive, honest, and accurate account of what it really means to be a substitute teacher.
